The year is 1604, Queen Elizabeth I died a year ago and the Catholic hope now lies in the new king James I of England. Although, James is protestant his mother was the Catholic martyr "Mary Queen Of Scots". Before his reign, James had promised to allow Catholics to worship freely. But on his ascension to the throne James did not keep his promise, in fact he introduced harsh laws to punish Catholics and expelled Catholics priest from England.

How do you think this betrayal of trust made the Catholics feel?
